New research reveals that a mentally stimulating job may help prevent dementia in older age. The new study builds on an existing body of research on the topic and found that on-the-job intellectual stimulation appears to lower levels of proteins that block brain cells from forming new connections. Estimates for the number of people living with dementia worldwide indicate that those numbers will nearly triple by 2050. Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease are so common, almost all of us can identify a friend or family member who has or had the disease.
