Researchers with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine reported that they estimate the number of people with dementia worldwide will nearly triple by 2050. What is behind this rise in number? In part it is related to the aging population, the U.S. National Institute on Aging estimates that over 16% of the world’s population will be over the age of 65 will make up 16% by 2050, that’s up from 8% in 2010.

The Alzheimer’s Association is a great place to learn about current research and trends related to Alzheimer’s and dementia as well as the basics of the disease itself and how best to support someone living with it.
